Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

Understand and apply the required technical and professional competencies of a recognised accounting professional in a range of business contexts.

Evaluate inputs from a variety of sources and stakeholders to ensure that the interests of others (including organisational, cultural and environmental), and the fundamental ethical values of integrity, objectivity and confidentiality are recognised.
3.
Evaluate the use of digital technologies, mechanisation, computerisation, and/or automation to support current and future business processes as a future focused accounting professional.
4.
Communicate specialist advice and decisions and work with to others to achieve organisational goals and provide professional expertise.

Exercise professional judgement using critical and reflective thinking and self-directed learning to continue developing as a self-reliant, ethical, and responsible accounting professional.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting all advertised eligibility requirements, or satisfying the requirements of an approved non-standard admission pathway.

The University of Southern Queensland accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission. These include, but are not limited to, Australian senior secondary qualifications (such as the QCE or HSC), overseas senior secondary qualifications (such as GCE-A Levels), prior tertiary studies, prior TAFE/VET studies, work experience, and completed enabling programs.

Recognition of Prior Learning for Credit

If you have prior work or other life experience or have studied previously, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) for credit. Credit can help reduce your tuition fees, study load and the time it takes to complete your degree.

Program Rules

The Bachelor of Accounting comprises 24 single-unit courses as indicated in the table below. Students are not permitted to complete more than ten (10) Level 1 courses as part of the program.

4 x Core courses
1 x 12-unit major (Professional Accounting)

plus one of the following:
second major* (8 units) (Finance, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Management, Marketing or Emergent Leadership) or
2 x 4-unit minors**
or
1 x 4-unit minor and 4 elective courses.

*Note: The Finance major is a recommended second major for students not wishing to undertake the Tax Practitioner and Finance minors. 
**Note: The Tax Practitioner Minor and Finance minor are recommended combinations.

You may choose to study fewer units than the full time pattern, or more units than the part-time pattern, but if doing so you should use these as a guide to best structure your studies, ensuring all requisites are met.
