SynopsisThis is an advanced course that expands upon the clinical skills students have developed in earlier courses. It uses practical learning experiences to develop specific competencies required in the practice context, including specific assessment and intervention skills. Students will have already established preliminary skills in OCT2202 Occupational Therapy with Children and Adolescents and OCT2203 Occupational Therapy and Mental Health, and concurrently in OCT3101 Occupational Therapy with Adults and Older Persons. In this unit students will extend their competencies in interpersonal approaches, home and workplace modifications, assistive technology, capacity building, energy conservation, occupational modification, splinting and skill acquisition. These skills will be developed in the context of service funding models in contemporary practice in Australia. APPROVED FOR FIRST OFFER 2025

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

1. Demonstrate proficiency in using advanced assessment processes to inform occupational therapy services.

2. Manufacture and appraise a thermoplastic upper limb splint.

3. Compile evidence of competence in using a range of approaches use to deliver occupational therapy services.

4. Appraise own competency in advanced occupational therapy assessment and intervention approaches to develop a professional development learning plan.

After Week 1, Assessment due dates may change with the approval of the Dean (Academic) or Delegate in limited circumstances.
