Case Study

<p>This course addresses the critical need for social workers to uphold their professional and ethical values and obligations while navigating the demands of a neoliberalism. Given the increasing dominance of the marketisation of social services, private practice and fee-for-service settings play a vital role in increasing access to social care; however, they are also fraught with dilemmas that can impact the quality and equity of that care. Social work students will deepen their understanding of these complexities, including issues related to profit generation, access inequality, and fragmented service delivery. Stories from experienced practitioners and practical tools will be employed throughout the course to help students build skills in developing strategic service models that maintain the integrity of the social work profession.</p>

Communicate complex ideas and solutions effectively and persuasively to diverse audiences, using a range of media, including written reports, visual presentations, and digital tools, to advocate for innovative and ethical private practice.

Apply a social work lens to critically evaluate various theoretical frameworks and the AASW Code of Ethics in navigating the complexities of private practice while maintaining commitment to client care and social justice.

Develop and implement 'hybrid' knowledge bases and skills that combine the strengths of critical social work and private practice, to effectively address the unique challenges associated with fee-for-service settings and ensuring equitable care for clients.

Explain and analyse the complex relationship between social work and fee-for-service settings, identifying challenges and opportunities to address inherent tensions and promote equitable care.

Apply skills in relationship building and fostering cultural safety in a marketised service context	

Critically examine and navigate the ethical implications of operating in fee-for-service settings, including issues related to parity, power, profit-making and propose strategies to promote equitable care and professional integrity.
