SynopsisThe purpose of field education is to provide students structured and supervised opportunities to gain insight into the skills required for working ethically with service users, communicating effectively with stakeholders, and managing challenges and competing priorities within the context of day-to-day social work practice.
A combination of placement hours, facilitated integrative online seminars and peer practice groups, support students learning on the realities and complexities of social work practice. Students work closely with their field educators to develop and adhere to a learning agreement that includes professional attributes such as ethical practice, cultural awareness, application of skills and professional development. Through feedback, supervision and critical self-reflection, students develop graduate capability in applying knowledge, skills and values appropriate to the context of their placement setting.
Assessment is built upon a learning plan using the Placement Assessment Review Tool (PART) which addresses the learning outcomes of the course. Students demonstrate achievement of their learning through ongoing evaluation and review of a range of professional tasks as appropriate to the placement setting, overseen by their field educator/s and further supported by their University Liaison using the PART. To capably demonstrate the learning outcomes of the course, students will confidently articulate their emerging professional practice framework, as they prepare for graduate work entry.
