Community action plan

<p>It is imperative social workers embrace holistic worldviews that recognise the complexity of the relationships between people and place and seek to address the entwined nature of ecological and social injustice. The most socially disadvantaged people in society are also the most environmentally at risk. This is a global issue although for regional, rural, and remote communities, vulnerabilities can be amplified e.g., higher rates of poor health outcomes or increased economic risk due to a dependence on primary production. This capstone course will enable students to integrate their learnings from the program and prepare for engagement with the complexity of social work in practice. They will be ready to work with people in their communities in authentic and embedded ways; with the ability to recognise and intervene at the intersection of social, economic, and environmental policies.</p>

Demonstrate a critical understanding of the relationship between place, socio-economic disadvantage, poorer health outcomes, and climate vulnerability.

Develop strategies with communities to intervene at local, state, and federal policy levels to address environmental and social justice issues.

Work in a community-embedded manner to ensure anti-oppressive, contextually and culturally responsive practice with individuals, families, and communities.

Critically analyse the role of dominant and deficit discourses in constructing understandings of regional, rural, and remote communities and recognise the diversity of and within these communities.

Demonstrate a critical understanding of the complexity of the relationship between people and place: undertaking policy analysis that examines intersecting impacts of social, economic and environmental justice
